Andre De Beer

Born in Potchefstroom in 1933, Andre de Beer devoted his life to the contribution of art in every possible way, whether through lecturing, serving as Chairman of the National Art Association of South Africa, or becoming a full time artist in 1983. 

His versatility is clearly seen in his wide range of paintings including landscapes, portrait studies, still life and figure compositions which he creates in a variety of media like oil, watercolour, ink, pencil, charcoal and pastel.  Andre de Beer is a sought after artist and has been assigned to paint several ministers as well as Karoo landscapes which were given as gifts to international secretariats. His studies include a BA degree and MA degree in Fine Arts.  From 1964 – 1970 he was Chairperson of the National Art Society of South Africa and also a member of the Curatorium of the Pretoria Art Museum.  He was also art lecturer, senior lecturer, Head of the Art Department and Vice-Rector, at the Pretoria College of Education. From 1975 to 1977 he was a part-time political cartoonist for Hoofstad newspaper, Pretoria. His work can be found in many private art collections, both locally and internationally.
