Peter Bonney

Peter Bonney is widely acknowledged as being among the leaders in the hyper-realist genre of contemporary painting in South Africa. He lives in Clarens, Freestate.

He uses photography as a tool to gather and record material, inspiration and ideas from wherever he travels

“I love to travel in our Great Karroo with its big sky – big space and amazing quiet, and that’s what I want to portray in my paintings, big sky, big space and amazing quiet!”

In 1986 he had his 1st one man show at the Crake Gallery. He also exhibited in Artists of the eighties at RAU, Summer Exhibition at Hout Street Gallery in Paarl and Nederberg wine sales exhibition at the Nederberg estate

He hosted a one man show at The Gallery Cirencester in the UK and in 2003 he participated in a group show entitled ‘Uncovered’ in Dublin, Ireland

His works are also included in the collections of scores large corporate firms including the following; Anglo American, Argus Group, First National Bank, Heinz International, Investec Bank, Imperial Motors Group, Kohler (Ltd), Penguin Films, Rustenburg Platinum Mines and South African Breweries.
